My respect for her increased more than ever before when she started singing in Sarawak-Malay which is our native Malay dialect of Sarawak. It's impressive that as she belts out soulfully in that dialect, she has never failed to transmit that warm fuzzing feeling across to her listeners. First we got the Mee Kolok Sigek which I couldn't get enough of (both the song and the local delicacy) and then we have "Siboh Kitak Nangis".
If you are wondering what she is singing about, here's the best translation I could find:
Oh dear, don't you cry, People's mouths(words) can be mean. Oh dear, don't take it to heart they will go away, before too long. I don't care, whether it's storm, or thunder, or lightning, I'll be by your side, if ever you need me. Oh dear, please stop crying, I hate seeing you broken-hearted. Oh no matter dear, the world is really fair, as long as we don't forget who we are. I don't care, whether it's storm, or thunder, or lightning, I'll be by your side, if ever you need me If ever you need me.
Now this has yet again reinforced my idea of wanting to truly master this dialect when I get home. It's a shame that I have never really master it when in fact, I have spent most of my life there. Shame on me!!!
